Following 2013 as the Year of Air, 2014 will be the Year of Resource (use) Efficiency. As part of the theme, several concepts will frame the European Environment Agency’s work throughout the year. One is the ‘circular economy,’ in which waste is seen as an important resource to be fed back into the human economy. Another is the ‘green economy’, interpreted as an economic system which simultaneously uses resources more efficiently, enhances human well-being and maintains natural systems.
In 2014 the European Commission will set out new proposals enabling Europe to unlock the potential of the circular economy.
The 2014 edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European Environment Policy, will take place from 3 to 5 June in Brussels. The theme will be Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency & Waste.
